Twitterive: Family Time Capsule

Prologue: My house has been in my family for over 40 years. My grandfather built it and always took great pride in it. He was always a family man and loved spending Sundays sitting and watching football with his family. This house holds so many memories for me because I, like my mother grew up in this house. We moved in shortly after my grandfather passed away in 1992. I someday hope my children [which are at this time puppies] will have an opportunity to know and appreciate the love of a family and how many memories one room can hold. That is why I decided to do my twitterive on my house and focus on family. I decided to make a family time capsule.

Grandmoms peach pie recipe
A home cooked meal was never completed without peach pie

Picture
Ingredients
  • 1 (15 ounce) package pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 5 cups sliced peeled peaches
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter
Directions
  1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F (220 degrees C).
  2. Line the bottom and sides of a 9 inch pie plate with one of the pie crusts. Brush with some of the beaten egg to keep the dough from becoming soggy later.
  3. Place the sliced peaches in a large bowl, and sprinkle with lemon juice. Mix gently. In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Pour over the peaches, and mix gently. Pour into the pie crust, and dot with butter. Cover with the other pie crust, and fold the edges under. Flute the edges to seal or press the edges with the tines of a fork dipped in egg. Brush the remaining egg over the top crust. Cut several slits in the top crust to vent steam.
  4. Bake for 10 minutes in the preheated oven, then reduce the heat to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and bake for an additional 30 to 35 minutes, until the crust is brown and the juice begins to bubble through the vents. If the edges brown to fast, cover them with strips of aluminum foil about halfway through baking. Cool before serving. This tastes better warm than hot.

Mom, me, Grandmom

November 30, 1984

To my daughter-to-be:

As I write this, it is only a month until you enter this world. Your father, your brother George and I are so excited to meet you. There is so much I want you to get out of this life. And I really hope to give you the foundation and education to know that you can do anything you set your mind to. You will be raised around a family that will love you and do anything for you. You will understand that family always comes first. We have many traditions that we are excited to share with you. I just know you will be very excited to be involved in everything.

We decided to name you Christine. Growing up I always named my dolls Chrissy or Christine. So I just know you have to be named Christine. There is so much I hope and wish you will get to see and achieve. I do not think I will ever let you read this  but I know we will be very close and I already love you more than anything in this world.

Love you and see you soon

Your mommy

My dearest Eileen,

I know things have not always been easy recently. With your dad and I divorcing when you were only 4 years old. I was so happy when I met your step-father I knew you would have a great positive male role model in your life. I understand you are 11 and we are going to change your whole world by picking up and moving from Philadelphia to South Jersey. Jim built this house himself for us to have a fresh start to an amazing life. I can just imagine family dinners every night and spend Sundays watching football together. There is even a pool at this house we can all go swimming. I just want our family to be very close starting now and for time to come. I want there to be memories that we can pass to your children (when you have them in a very very long time) Please understand I have you and your sister’s best interest in mind. I want to provide you guys with the best life possible with the most opportunity for you to be anything you want to be. I love you more than anything in this world Eileen always remember that.

Love,

Mom

Sunday in their Eyes:
It's Sunday! My brother and I know it because our mother has us dressed in Eagles jerseys. Why she dresses two 10 pound puppies is beyond me - but she's my mom so don't judge.

We're here! We are at grandmom's! Pudge and I couldn't drag our mother fast enough to the front door. We dart through the door and charge into the living room.

"Hey, hey everyone! So happy to see you! Kisses for you and you and you," is what we say to everyone. Although I'm pretty sure all they hear is a whinny moan noise. I think this because they would all make that noise back at us with these huge smiles. Guess they really don't understand us....HUMAMS!

It's not even five minutes, even though it seemed like forever, until the food was put out. The smell of wings filled the room and my nose. Grandmom makes sure we are also fed, we each get a bowl of hotdogs or hamburgers. Our favorite is when they eat steak because we get some steak too.

Every Sunday, the living room is a packed house. Everyone, equipped with food and an alcoholic beverage, fill into the living room. Both large, made for three, blue sofas have four people sitting in them. The blue love seat has Pudge and my mom and dad on it. Gigi, our great-grandmom, sits on the red ottaman. all ready to watch the game on the 52 inch HD television.

Kickoff! The Eagles game has begun and so does the mayham that goes on in the living room every week. Everybody in this room is dressed in Eagles gear, but you may question which team they are routing for. When there's a bad play or mistake you hear a lot of choice phrases.

"There we fucking go, fucking up as always." That's one of the nicest comments that I hear.

It is mainly Jay who yells such volgar things. The family actually created a drinking game on Sundays because of him. Everytime he yells "fucking fat ass" at Andy Reid everyone takes a shot. Lets put it this way the whole family is drunk by the end of the first quarter.

Now comes the part my brother and I hate the most; Vick as quarter back. Never do Pudge and I get so angry as when we hear his name or see him on TV. We go nuts start yelling everything that we can.

"Get your ass back on the sidelines you fucking dog killer, put Kolb back in. We would rather lose with a horrible quarterback then have to watch your ass play." Those are only some of the things we yell. Again I really don't think my family understands what we are saying. Everytime we yell, we get yelled at for what they call barking. What the hell is barking? It really confuses me. We also get a few laughs from Jay who makes comments like I think the puppies don't like Vick. No shit sherlock what do you think we are saying. Sundays are beginning to have me a little frustrated because I don't think we are being understood.

Funniest part of Sunday is if the Eagles lose and watching Jay do a mock interview as Andy Reid.

"Cough, I need to put my players in better position, Cough. I take full responsibility. Cough." He also makes jokes about him ordering food on the sideline and how he has to end the interview to get to his food before his dinner gets cold. Got to say it is very funny and makes us laugh.

Sundays are always very crazy and very fun. I never want it to end which Pudge and I make sure we don't have to. We just become a little more cuddley with our grandparents and then they make my mom and dad leave them for the night. We get all the food, attention and play time we want. Sundays don't end for us.

Add a lovely She Said Yes memorie to capsule

Where I said YES

It was Christmas Eve
My favorite time of year
Sitting in my living room with family
All wrapping gifts and drinking beer
He was acting pretty strange
Always walking out of the room
Spending an hour talking to my father
Just discussing fishing or gifts, I assumed
All of the sudden I looked up and noticed
My entire family staring at him
He was petting the family dog dollar
And then he looked at me to begin
He said we've been best friends for eleven years
And he loved me with all of his heart
He said he wanted to take things farther
To ensure we would never part
It was at that point right there
He got down on one knee
He looked deep into my eyes
and asked "Christine, will you marry me"
My eyes teared with joy
I looked at my family around
They all were looking back at me
And not one was making a sound
Some how I found the words
With a bright smile I screamed yes
A room that is filled with so many memories
Is where my FIANCEE and I decided to take the next step
